Guiding Documents

At the boards’ strategic planning meeting Thursday, March 16, 2006, KRFC’s new mission, vision, and values statements became official.

The board and staff gathered input from 250+ people with focus groups, surveys, advisory committees, and public meetings to craft these new documents. Station management sought to change the old mission statement for several reasons:

  1. The old mission statement was too long to use effectively in spreading the KRFC message. A good mission statement should be short enough to memorize and recite.
  2. The old mission statement was written by 8 people with no public input before KRFC went on the air. The new mission is the result of a much more thorough and inclusive process.
  3. No vision or value statements existed before now. But in fact, much of the old mission statement tried to convey values. These were used as the foundation of the new values statement.

The mission statement was adopted by a unanimous vote of the board of directors last February. A waiting period followed in which the membership could halt the immediate adoption of the statements by petition. March 16 marked the end of the petition period; no valid petition was presented.

The statements read as follows:

Mission

KRFC makes great radio that is local, noncommercial, and volunteer powered.

Vision

KRFC will be recognized as a respected voice of the community, creating a sense of place through excellent radio programming.
