Come enjoy this one-of-a-kind KRFC Field Trip Saturday, July 12, meeting at the KRFC parking lot at 4:30pm!! This is our first field trip and we're not sure how many will be coming. You're welcome to show up at the last minute, or help us plan transportation ahead by giving us a call at 970-221-5075.
This trip is open for all to attend but is FREE for KRFC MEMBERS.
The field trip will start in the KRFC parking lot at 4:30 p.m. on July 12th and we'll carpool out to the sanctuary which will take about one hour. Please let us know if you are willing to led your car to the cause , we could use the help!
Most of the animals at the sanctuary have come from abusive situations or were seized from illegal operations. You will be heartbroken to learn about their former lives, but will appreciate the fabulous second chance they have been given by Pat Craig, manager of the facility, who has been rescuing these animals for over 28 years. His philosophy is: "A sanctuary for animals, not a zoo for people".
At the sanctuary you'll be able to watch over 170 large carnivores--Tigers, African lions, pumas, grizzly bears, black bears, wolves and many more from a raised observation deck. There are tables and chairs if you want to bring a snack or picnic. Rest room facilities are also available at the site as well as an information center and gift shop.
The Wild Animal Sanctuary a non profit with scores of volunteers to take care of the animals. As a non-profit, the Sanctuary can always use donated food for the animals. The bears, especially, can eat a variety of fruits and vegetables, so if you have any leftovers from your garden and want to bring it, the Sanctuary will certainly utilize it!! Bags of dry dog and cat food can also be used by many of the animals if you care to bring a bag or two.
Cindy Reich, host of "Critter Patter" on KRFC has "adopted" an abused black bear, "Winnie" on behalf of the show. She will be following the bear's progress on the show from her 8 years of life stuffed into a small cage with 6 other bears to her new-found freedom at the Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Thank You to Chris Maldonado and Cindy Reich for organizing this one of a kind event!
